Drama of Dissection

Puppetry Director

Working as an Artist in Residence at Kings College London in the department of Medicine to create an incredibly important piece of work aimed at helping Medical Students in their very first years of study.

I was approached by Director, Dr Alex Mermikides, out of the blue to collaborate on a project about the study of anatomy. Having studied anatomy at Wimbledon College of Art by use of the sculpture galleries at the Victoria and Albert Museum or the preserved wonders of Victor Wynd’s Museum of Curiosities I was extremely interested. Alex explained that she hoped to blend puppetry, magic and contemporary theatre together with Lighting Designer Jon M Armstrong to explore the artistic questions surrounding the contemporary study of Anatomy.

Through 10 weeks of Research and Development, including leading a class on puppetry performance for a group of second year bioengineering students, we created a short performance of our work. This was shared with previous, past students and their lecturers and technicians with incredible feedback and discussion at the conclusion.

The project is currently seeking it’s next round of funding before continuing R&D
