Entwine
A Collaboration between Marionette and Dance
Floating, Flying, Sinking, Swimming, Throwing, Twisting, Falling. There is a lot of things the marionette cannot do compared to the human body. But what about all the things it can…
Entwine is a collaboration with dancer, Anna Smith who I met very much by chance at the end of a Royal Opera Ballet tour, in Tokyo, Japan. Anna. who was fascinated with puppetry and I, who had a puppet dancer but no one to dance with, decided to come together.
The aim of our collaboration to to learn from each other the similarities and differences between dance and puppetry by co-curating a new dance performance.
The dance performance explores contemporary dance, classical ballet and traditional and contemporary marionette puppetry.
We are thrilled that director and puppetry director, Rachel Warr, of Dotted Line Theatre, and with a background in classical ballet and dance, has joined us as our outside eye as we develop the initial form of the piece.
Our debut performance was at the Celebration of Marionettes event at the Art Workers’ Guild, London, October 23rd 2024.
